Amateur video out of Syria shows a funeral in Damascus for a 14-year-old boy. The video, which could not be independently verified by Reuters, shows crowds filling the streets to mark the death of Sobhi Salam, who was purportedly killed by Syrian security forces. On Wednesday the Arab league called on Syria to use dialogue, not arms to address a five-month-old rebellion against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. On Tuesday local activists said Assad forces killed five mourners when they fired at a funeral for villagers killed the day before near Hama. The crackdowns have not stopped the demonstrations. In Northwestern syria people are out o the streets thanking the media for getting their message out. Syria has banned most independent media from the country making it difficult to verify accounts fro the government and activists. Nighttime footage shows more demonstrations with more calls for the end of the regime. The UN says at least 2,600 people have been killed in Syria since pro-democracy protests broke out in March. The figures are almost twice the size of the Syrian government's estimate. Deborah Lutterbeck, Reuters
