April 3 - Republican Mitt Romney wins three primaries including the night's top prize of Wisconsin and moved closer to clinching his party's nomination. Deborah Gembara reports.

Republican Mitt Romney moved closer to securing his party's presidential nomination on Tuesday after sweeping primaries in Maryland, Washington D.C. and Wisconsin. SOUNDBITE: Republican Mitt Romney saying: "Thank you to Wisconsin, Maryland and Washington D.C. We won them all." The heartland state was considered the night's top prize. It was also where the former governor of Massachusetts' closest rival Rick Santorum had hoped to break Romney's momentum. Speaking to supporters in Pennsylvania, Santorum said he's staying in the race. SOUNDBITE: Republican Rick Santorum saying: "Half the other people in this country have yet to be heard, and we're going to go out and campaign here and across this nation to make sure that their voices are heard in the next few months." The wins give Romney 98 more delegates, putting him well over half of the 1,144 needed to clinch the nomination. Deborah Gembara, Reuters.
