New Syria deaths despite U.N. mission

April 24 - Activists say the Syrian army has killed another 20 people a day after a visit to the city by U.N. monitors. Paul Chapman reports.

Activists said more than 20 people died a day after U.N. monitors visited the city. Reuters is unable to verify the content of the footage. Syrian TV on Monday released video of U.N. observers driving through Homs as part of their efforts to oversee a truce. The agreement has failed to bring a complete halt to 13 months of bloodshed. The U.N. Security Council's agreed to increase its monitoring team to 300. U.N. officials in Damascus said they were now paving the way for the expansion of the observer mission. SOUNDBITE: NEERAJ SINGH, OFFICIAL MEMBER OF THE ADVANCE U.N. TEAM IN SYRIA, SAYING (English): "I don't think I need to stress the importance of the task that the military observers are here to perform. That is where our focus is. We are continuing our job, we are preparing all the grounds that are necessary for setting up the larger mission of the supervision mission of the U.N." The bloodshed in Syria has continued despite government promises to comply with the U.N.-backed truce.
