Dismissed as a joke when it first surfaced last year our platform our Internet freedom and political transparency. Germany's part parties fast becoming a force to be reckoned with. The pirates are redoubling their assault on mainstream politics and winning some significant electoral victories. This spring and during the regional parliament in north Rhine Westphalia the country's biggest state and home to nearly one in four Germans. These are important and serious elections they have repeatedly make games off like five to 8%. This is quite a phenomenon in -- politics we have not seen such a rapid growth of any political party that -- so yes they have to be taken seriously. The scale and speed of that bonds has left many. Not least some of the pirates themselves who will -- it. There is more to the pirates in the city costumes but there's no denying they -- coherent policies. On some of the biggest issues of the day. And these parts where we don't have any policies for example knowledge waltzing you -- we'll see you request this. We don't starts to two like pop ballistics -- say all Germany outside of the hero and so on. But we say okay we don't have a numb. -- -- positional on that and give us -- sometime. Polls show the pirates are staking his claim to third place in the party pecking order. If they can translate that regional success on the national stage then like the greens before them they could find themselves becoming coalition kingmaker is. Blended greens learn government they have to learn how to make compromises. They will Potts he and that didn't want to go into won't. And when they weren't government in 1999 they had to Germany had to go to possible. And that was a very painful process for all the green hockey because. They had to get rid of that idea off peace and and Ty law and get rid of the part of the history and I think if with the pirates come to that point they have to make compromises also. The Kevin Johnson I -- the Mecca for one is keeping a PDI on the pirates. The chances of winning a third time next here a big boosted by these political Buccaneers crabbing boats from a center left opponents. Before too -- the pirates have to be sitting in the German parliament behind me. To achieve that they know they need to be taken more seriously. The question is how far they're willing to compromise that original ideals Davidson -- what is.
