TV AND WEB RESTRICTIONS~**PART "COURTESY US GOVERNMENT HANDOUT/GEOEYE"/ PART COURTESY US GOVERNMENT HANDOUT/DIGITAL GLOBE" This is what fighting in Syria looks like from the ground. And this is what it looks like from the air - according to the U.S. government. These are newly-released satellite images that Washington says show artillery bombardment of civilian areas and Syrian attack helicopters on standby. (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT SPOKESMAN MARK TONER, SAYING: "We want to send that message to the Syrian people, first and foremost, so they can see what their government's doing, but certainly it's equally important that the international community see these images as well." These images - taken recently - purport to show a mass grave in Houla, where more than 100 men, women and children were massacred last week. The violence, now in its 14th month, prompted high-profile US Senator, Joeseph Lieberman, to call for American intervention. (SOUNDBITE) (English) UNITED STATES SENATOR JOSEPH LIEBERMAN SAYING: "There is a coalition of willing nations, particularly in the Arab world, and I think in Europe, and elsewhere in the world, that is waiting for American leadership to act against Assad." Over 10,000 people have died since an uprising began last year against long-time president Bashar al-Assad. Andrew Raven, Reuters
