Egyptian president-elect Mohamed Mursi visits Field Marshal Tantawi of the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. Last week the military dissolved the Islamist-dominated parliament and issued a decree setting limits on the president's authority - steps many critics say constitute a "soft coup". On Monday, Mursi began work on forming a coalition government - the same day the army-backed government, led by Prime Minister Ganzouri, resigned. An aide to Mursi said his talks with Tantawi focused on the formation of a new government. The military council wants Mursi sworn in on June 30 - meeting a deadline it set itself for handing over Egypt to civilian rule. But with the army freely passing measures that severely restrict the powers of civil government, some believe they are unlikely to truly remove themselves from hegemony any time soon.
