ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Myanmar politician and pro-democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi became an honorary citizen of a town on the other side of the world on Thursday when she was handed citizenship of Paris at a ceremony in the French capital. Suu Kyi was visiting France towards the end of her 17-day tour of Europe which has taken her to Switzerland, Ireland and the UK. Addressing the crowd in French, the Nobel laureate spoke of her pride and happiness at being awarded the honor. Suu Kyi, who has become a symbol of non-violent protest, described the people of Paris as "friends". On Tuesday, the 67 year-old campaigner who spent almost two decades under house arrest in Myanmar before her release in late 2010, met French President Francois Hollande. At a news conference, she spoke of her admiration for France as the country of Victor Hugo and onion soup.
