ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Samsung Electronics launched its latest Galaxy S III smartphone in Japan with tech-savvy customers admiring its wide display and smooth operation. The S III will be sold exclusively in Japan by the country's biggest cell phone carrier NTT Docomo. Company president Kaoru Kato, says the powerful new smartphone would compete well against Apple's iPhone. (SOUNDBITE) (Japanese) NTT DOCOMO PRESIDENT KAORU KATO STANDING ON STAGE SAYING: "This model comes with complete cutting-edge features, combined with our services, it's competitive with the iPhone." NTT Docomo's cell phone line-up doesn't feature the iPhone, which are sold by its competitors KDDI and Softbank. But the Galaxy S III is on track to become Samsung' fastest selling smartphone, with sales likely to top 10 million in the first two months since its launch. The smartphone, running on Google's Android operating system, boasts a 4.8-inch (12.2 cm) screen, much bigger than the 3.5-inch display on Apple's iPhone 4S. A feature that did not go unnoticed by customers like businessman Kadao Shibasaki. (SOUNDBITE) (Japanese) 48-YEAR-OLD BUSINESSMAN KADAO SHIBASAKI SAYING: "The screen is big, and it's unexpectedly light in weight." Samsung launched the S III on May 29, and says 296 carriers in 145 countries will stock the smartphone by July.
