A fighter jet falls from the sky in Syria. The video, which could not be independently verified by Reuters, purportedly shows a government jet crashing to the ground in a strategic town along the highway that links Aleppo and Damascus. More footage appears to show government soldiers captured by rebel forces. Combat has been reported across the country -- in a conflict that has already cost at least 30,000 lives according to the UN. More footage appears to show the burning of a mosque in Aleppo. The bloodshed in Syria has escalated over the past two months although neither side has been able to gain a distinct advantage in the battle to control the country. The UN peace envoy for Syria is expected to head to Damascus soon to urge President Bashar al-Assad to call a ceasefire.
