After eight days of fighting, Israel and Hamas agreed to a truce brokered by Egypt.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who took part in the talks in Egypt says the truce comes at a crucial time.
"This is a critical moment for the region. Egypt's new government is assuming the responsibility and leadership that has long made this country a cornerstone for regional stability and peace,"
Fighting in the Gaza strip has cost the lives of at least 140 Palestinians.
In Israel, four civilians and one soldier were killed in the conflict.
