Gunfire is heard in the Syrian frontier town of Ras al-Ain, as rebel soldiers gather close to the Turkish border. Rebels have held a tentative hold over the town, which has been bombarded by forces loyal to the Syrian government. Since fighting erupted, refugees have poured across the border seeking safety in Turkey. On Saturday (November 24), many continued to flee, as Turkish soldiers kept watch from lookout posts. Syria's neighbours are facing a refugee crisis as the ongoing conflict forces thousands from their homes. The fighting in Ras al-Ain has also brought the war close to Turkish soil. Ankara has repeatedly scrambled fighter jets and responded in kind to stray bullets flying into its territory. As the conflict continues, activists say more then 40,000 people have been killed across Syria.
