Thousands of textile workers demonstrate on the outskirts of Dhaka. They're angry over a deadly fire that swept through a garment workshop over the weekend -- Bangladesh's worst-ever factory blaze. Police and officials said narrow exits in the nine-storey building trapped workers inside, killing 111 people and injuring more than 150. The factory's staff and residents blocked roads and forced the closure of other factories in the industrial suburb, demanding those responsible for the disaster be punished. One protest leader called for compensation for families of the injured. Working conditions at Bangladeshi factories are notoriously poor, with little enforcement of safety laws. Overcrowding and locked fire doors are common. At least 500 people have died in clothing factory accidents in Bangladesh since 2006. Another fire broke out in a multi-storey garment factory in a Dhaka suburb on Monday, but a fire official said the blaze was under control and there were no immediate reports of deaths.
