Rescue workers struggle to find survivors in an Italian mountain hotel, after tremors triggered an avalanche on the building. Sarah Charlton reports.

Disaster as a massive avalanche hits a mountainside hotel in central Italy. Triggered by a series of earthquakes, many feared dead. Officials say up to 30 might be buried in the snow. Rescue workers struggling in the darkness, carving a path through snow. Families awaiting word on the fate of their loved ones. Up to 5 metres - or 16 foot - of snow has fallen on the Gran Sasso mountain range in recent days. The tremors started Wednesday (January 18), the U.S. geological survey reporting it included a 5.7 magnitude quake. The region is still recovering from a quake in August that killed hundreds.
