ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: British designer Matthew Williamson showed his latest collection at London Fashion Week on Sunday (February 17) with famous guests including Vogue editor Anna Wintour watching models strut down the runway at London's Royal Opera House. His colourful collection was inspired by the idea of a quintessential English rose on a trip to the Arctic Circle. "I wanted her to take a journey to the Northern Lights, where I saw these toxic colours and amazing neon skies," the designer told Reuters. "I'm all about colour so I wanted to bring a bit of life and energy and colour to fashion week." He flooded his runway with a kaleidoscope of different colours and patterns, of sulphur yellows, tangy oranges and bright fuchsias. Sequinned patterns of roses were sewn onto sweaters and skirts with pleated detailing, with embellished necklines inspired by native Nordic costumes. Mid-length dresses layered over coloured turtle necks and tailored trousers, with thick coats resembled woven blankets, with knitted rabbit fur sweaters and glamorous evening gowns in rich jewel tones completing the collection.
