Government supporters rally in Malaysia as the country's general election campaign officially gets underway. Here in the capital, Kuala Lumpur, cheers greet a candidate from the ruling National Front. The party has run Malaysia for 56 years but polling suggests this could be the country's closest election in decades. That's because there is a growing disenchantment with what the opposition calls corruption and mismanagment. (SOUNDBITE) (English) CANDIDATE OF DEMOCRATIC ACTION PARTY, TONY PUA SAYING: "Continuity of the Barisan National (or "National Front" in English) government will mean continuity of the current regime plagued by corruption, by scandals, by abuse of power. Many are also angered by government policies that favour ethnic Malays over the country's sizeable Chinese and Indian minorities. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SUPPORTER OF DEMOCRATIC ACTION PARTY, 60, KRISHNAN KUMAR SAYING: "They (National Front) don't support us, they don't support Indians, they don't support Chinese, they don't do anything for us in the past 55 years." The election is set for May 5.
