ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Clashes between police and protesters boiled over into the evening in Istanbul on Monday, the third day of some of the most violent riots in Turkey in decades. Hundreds of police and protesters have been injured since Friday (May 31), when a demonstration to halt construction in a park in an Istanbul square grew into mass protests against a heavy-handed crackdown and what opponents call Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's authoritarianism. On Monday evening in Istanbul riot police and protesters were locked in running clashes, with police using tear gas and water cannon to disperse protesters. Police arrested a group of young people in a cafe and led them away. The demonstrations showed no sign of abating with protesters gathering again in Taksim Square. Barricades of rubble hindered traffic alongside the Bosphorus waterway and blocked entry into the area. Leftist groups hung out red and black flags and banners calling on Erdogan to resign.
