7,400 is the Daily Digit. Apple plans to hire 7,400 new full-time employees for its growing presence in its hometown of Cupertino, California by 2016. If that prediction holds true - Apple's headcount in the city will grow to more than 23,000. Those new employees are expected to eventually work at Apple Campus 2 - a development site spanning approximately 176 acres. At the center of the proposed complex - a round space-ship like building Apple has been trying to convince the city to let it build -for years- going back to before the death of founder Steve Jobs. According to updated plans just submitted to city officials, Apple has already increased its workforce in the area by an average 18 percent each of the past five years. And this expansion will indirectly support another 13,000 jobs outside the company. Growth, however, is not the way to describe Apple's stock right now. Shares have lost one-fifth of their value over the past 12 months; investors questioning whether Apple really has another blockbuster growth product in the works.
