Online video streaming service Hulu is making history with the first English-language show starring an all-Latino cast. The teen drama series "East Los High" is about Hispanic students in a Los Angeles high school. The 24-episode series is the latest attempt by media companies to tap into the ever-growing Latino market. But while many networks have created channels and services in Spanish, "East Los High" is entirely in English -- an element that producer and director Carlos Portugal says is important. SOUNDBITE: Carlos Portugal, producer and director, saying (Spanish): "In my opinion, we are in the United States and I think one of the very important message to give to young people here in the United States is that if you want to get ahead you have to speak English, you have to speak English as well as Anglos do." Lisa Richwine, entertainment and business correspondent for Reuters, comments on the venture. SOUNDBITE: Lisa Richwine, entertainment and business correspondent for Reuters, saying (English): "Every media company, because of the sheer size of the population is trying to figure out the best way to serve them and the best way to provide an advertising platform to reach this demographic. Whether it's through sports programming, entertainment programming, reality shows, everything that you would see in English but giving it a different slant, or using more diverse characters than you see on another network." The Hispanic population in the United States is more than 50 million and represents more than half of the country's net population growth.
