Embattled Syrian president Bashar al-Assad celebrates the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr in Damascus. His appearance follows reports that his motorcade was shelled en route to this mosque in the heart of the capital. A group called the Tahrir al-Sham said it fired several salvos at the president, hitting members of his entourage. Syria's government denied the attack, calling the report "wholly untrue". This footage from state television appeared to show al-Assad unharmed and rebels concede they did not hit the president. If confirmed, the attack would perhaps be the closest rebels have come to Assad during Syria's 28-month civil war. More than 100,000 people have died in the conflict and millions have been displaced. The Eid holiday marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.
