ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: U.S. President Barack Obama arrived late to a dinner on the first evening of the G20 summit in the Russian city of St. Petersburg on Thursday. The President arrived at the famous Peterhof Summer Palace some 15 minutes later than the rest of the group which had been led by summit host Russian President Vladimir Putin. It was not immediately clear why Obama did not arrive with his fellow world leaders. The global heads held their first working session in the late afternoon at the Constantine Palace before moved on to the nearby Peterhof palace, famous for its lavish fountains, for the dinner and a cultural show. Obama faces growing pressure from world leaders not to launch military strikes in Syria at the summit on the global economy that was hijacked by the conflict. The group is trying to forge a united front on how to revive economic growth, but failed to heal divisions over a U.S. plan to wind down a programme to stimulate the world economy. The club that accounts for two thirds of the world's population and 90 percent of its output looked as divided over therapy for the economy as it is over possible military action following a chemical weapons attack in Syria. Obama arrived in Russia's former imperial capital with a showdown looming at the dinner hosted by President Vladimir Putin, with a debate on Syria the main course on the menu.
