A big announcement for a big night in Washington. President Obama will announce during his State of the Union address that he will sign an executive order to raise the minimum wage for new federal contractors. SOUNDBITE: JOHN HUDAK, FELLOW, GOVERNANCE STUDIES, SAYING: "What the President is doing is he's trying to push Congress, he's trying to push policy in the direction that he thinks is right and by raising the minimum wage for federal contractors he thinks that's at least a small step in the right direction." The hike will raise the minimum wage for new federal contract workers to ten dollars and ten cents an hour. SOUNDBITE: JOHN HUDAK, FELLOW, GOVERNANCE STUDIES, SAYING: "Most people think of federal contractors as individuals who work in intelligence, people who work in defense contracting or individuals who work on construction projects, but in reality there are a lot of people who work in areas like maintenance, and food service who are federal contractors who are earning a minimum wage. And this boost for them will certainly help." Obama is vowing to make 2014 a year of action and he's calling on Congress to get on board with his agenda. But the President has warned if Congress doesn't cooperate, he'll get the job done himself. Obama also plans to call on lawmakers to raise the minimum wage for everyone else. SOUNDBITE: NEIL ISEBERG, SAYING: "It's just too low, I mean it's not a living wage, you can't survive on it, not in this country you can't." SOUNDBITE: VIRGINIA RESIDENT KYLE REES, SAYING: "The goal is to decrease income inequality, right so I guess we have to see if it works. I know some people say it won't have much of an effect. Kinda of a wait and see approach." Republicans are against an across the board minimum wage hike. And they're warning the President not to overstep his powers with more executive orders.
