Demonstrators wield stones and police retaliate with tear gas. There have been violent protests like these across Venezuela the country for five weeks. But this time a Chilean women -- the first foreigner -- has been killed in the unrest, bringing the number of fatalities to 22. Gisela Rubilar was shot dead trying to clear a barricade put up by protesters. Venezuelan President Nicoloas Maduro said the killers had been identified. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) VENEZUELAN PRESIDENT NICOLAS MADURO, SAYING: "At the time she was standing there conversing and motorcycles arrived - they have been identified - from these extremist right groups and they fired their weapons and they shot her in the temple and the bullet came out of her left side and they injured two neighbours as well as Giselle." High inflation, rampant crime and food shortages have brought these people onto the streets. They're demanding the president's resignation and the release of scores of protesters, detained for inciting violence. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) PROTESTER MARCELA, SAYING: "I hope that this doesn't end until the government takes notice and they resign and fall. This is my hope before worse things take place here. Of course we don't want blood to be spilled, it is already enough with those who have died, there are already enough detained people. San Cristobal has been hardest hit by the turmoil. Government buildings and security headquarters have come under attack. Pro- and anti-government medical personnel also held rival rallies in the capital on Monday. Students are vowing to stay on the streets and there are no signs that these protests will let up.
