The peaceful, historic city of Lviv, in western Ukraine. It stands in stark contrast to more recent images from the east where city halls are barricaded and armed men stand guard. Yet in these quiet streets, theyre dealing the uncertainty by poking fun --- at Russian President Vladimir Putin. Their weapon of choice --- a chocolate figurine of a grim-looking Putin wearing prison clothes. (SOUNDBITE) (Ukrainian) ANDRIY STEFANENKO, TOURIST, SAYING: "It's surreal, such an ugly creature and such great chocolate, I'm not even sure if it's all right to eat him, is it necessary? But if you crush it then you can eat it as chocolate." They can't keep him on the shelves (SOUNDBITE) (Ukrainian) KATHERINE PIKUSI, STORE MANAGER, SAYING: "A lot of people are buying them. As you can see not many are left. There are a wide range of emotions: some people are cheered up by this and others are more skeptical. In general I would say people like the idea." For some it is sweet revenge. (SOUNDBITE) (Ukrainian) CHOCOLATE LOVER, SVITLANA KORPIS, SAYING: "Given the situation it is totally appropriate to make chocolate like this, everyone knows the political situation, there are a lot of people who want at the very least to bite the head off a chocolate Putin." The hope was to turn Putin into a joke with a message. On closer examination the figure holds a bomb in his hands.
