ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Hillary Clinton would make a "spectacular" Democratic presidential candidate in 2016, says former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Bloomberg made the comment on Sunday (May 18) during an interview on the CBS news program Face the Nation, when asked if Clinton would be the best candidate among Democrats. "Hillary Clinton, whether you agree with her policies or not, whether you want to vote for her, I don't even know if she's gonna run, but she's a quality person," Bloomberg told CBS's Bob Schieffer. "She is also a great American, works as hard as anybody and is dedicated to this country. You can't ask somebody to do more than she has done for her country," Bloomberg said. The three-term former mayor also discussed possible contenders on the Republican including Florida Governor Jeb Bush, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. "These are people with executive experience," Bloomberg said, referring to the three state Governors and to Hillary Clinton. "At least they know what it is and they won't have the excuse of, 'I didn't know what it was like when I got elected'," he said. But Bloomberg, who changed his political affiliation from Republican to an independent in 2007, also said he has no plans to run for president himself, saying that an independent candidate is effectively unelectable. "If I thought I could win, it would be something to consider. But you can't win, and I've given twelve years to public service and I'm not going to be a candidate for president," he told Schieffer, when asked if he would ever think of running for president. . "I used to say I'm too liberal for the Republicans and too conservative for the Democrats," Bloomberg continued. "But I'm not so sure in either case that's right. I am a fiscal conservative, a social liberal and I believe in actually doing things rather than pontificating."
