U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says countries inside and outside the Middle East have pledged military support against Islamic State militants. Some nations, he says, have even offered to put troops on the ground, although he hasn't specified which nations have done so. Kerry was speaking Sunday on the CBS news program "Face the Nation". SOUNDBITE: U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE JOHN KERRY SAYING: "We have countries in this region, countries outside of this region, in addition to the United States, all of whom are prepared to engage in military assistance, in actual strikes if that is what it requires". Kerry has been touring the Middle East to build a military coalition against Islamic State. The group has grabbed territory in Syria and Iraq to create an Islamic caliphate. U.S. President Barack Obama wants airstrikes on both sides of the Syria-Iraq border to degrade and ultimately destroy the group. SOUNDBITE: U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE JOHN KERRY SAYING: "Every single aspect of the President's strategy on what needs to be done in order to accomplish our goal has been offered by one country or multiple countries and all basis are covered." The gruesome beheadings of two U.S. journalists and a British aid worker by Islamic State have galvanized international reaction against the militants. But Britain on Sunday resisted pressure to join the U.S. in announcing air strikes against them. And Turkey, a regional power, has been reluctant to play a frontline role, a possible sign that building this coalition for a regional war may be easier said than done.
