ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) During an event on Tuesday focused on his new book "Worthy Fights," former Defense Secretary and head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Leon Panetta offered his assessments about the battles he observed at home and abroad while working for U.S. President Barack Obama. Panetta described to the moderator of the event, former CNN correspondent and Director of the School of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University Frank Sesno, the tough relationship Obama faced with the U.S. Congress. Panetta also discussed the strained U.S. relations with then Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, who the former Defense chief said contributed to the vacuum in Iraq that allowed for Islamic State (IS) to take hold. On a day when defense chiefs from more than 20 coalition nations gathers at Joint Base Andrews to discuss strategy for defeating IS, Panetta commended the meeting while stressing the notion that the U.S. and the coalition was now at war with IS.
