7053-USA-NYPD POLICE SHOOTING/COMMUNITY Slain NYPD officers transported from hospital The deaths of two NYPD officers shot while on duty in Brooklyn intensifies an already tense relationship between the police force and city hall. Julie Noce reports. Rows of New York City police officers salute emergency service vehicles carrying two slain officers as they left a medical center in Brooklyn Saturday night. Earlier in the day a 28 year old man walked up to a police car in the Bedford-Styvesent area of Brooklyn and fatally shot the two officers on duty... 40 year old Rafael Ramos and 32 year old Wenjian Liu . The president of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association said the mayor's office should be held accountable. (SOUNDBITE) (English) PATRICK LYNCH, PRESIDENT OF THE PATROLMEN'S BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION, SAYING: "there's blood on many hands tonight. those that incited violence on the street under the guise of protests, that tried to tear down what New York city police officers did every day. we tried to warn, it must not go on, it cannot be tolerated. that blood on the hands starts on the steps of city hall, in the office of the mayor." The incident will further chill already frigid relations between Mayor Mayor Bill de Blasio and the city's police force who have disagreed recently over the handling of anti-police demonstrations in the Eric Garner and Michael Brown cases. Massive protests broke out in New York, and nation wide, over the grand jury decisions not to indict white police officers in the deaths of the two men, both of whom were black. De Blasio had voiced his support for the protesters who said the police needed retraining. Community members said the police shootings are a major set back during an already tense time for the city and the country. (SOUNDBITE) English UNIDENTIFIED COMMUNITY MEMBER SAYING: "Leave your politics at home, come out here and embrace us working together with everybody so we can denounce this kind of stupidity. This is a tragedy, and it's at a bad time in our community." Several civil rights leaders have also condemned the officers deaths.
