ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: The family of a fallen New York City police officer and local community leaders gathered outside his home on Sunday (December 21) to honor his memory and to ask for peace in the community. Relatives of Officer Rafael Ramos stood visibly moved one day after he was shot dead alongside his police partner Wenjian Liu. Police say a gunman killed the two officers in an attack intended to avenge recent police killings of unarmed black men in the United States. The shooting's aftermath has turned into the biggest crisis of Mayor Bill de Blasio's political career. New York police officers turned their backs on de Blasio in protest during a news conference and their union said the mayor had blood on his hands after Saturday's shooting. At Sunday's news conference, community organizers Tony Herbert and Juan Rodriguez chastised the mayor for mishandling the incident, which has become entwined with ongoing disputes between the mayor and the police union.
