A hunt is on in Paris for these gunmen. They killed at least 12 people -- including two officers, one of them ... at point-blank range. At least ten of the dead were journalists at the French satyrical weekly Charlie Hebdo. The publication is known for lampooning radical Islam and was the target of attack before. SOUNDBITE: ROCCO CONTENTO, SGP UNION REPRESENTATIVE SAYING: "Three armed suspects stormed into the Charlie Hebdo headquarters with Kalachnikov pump-action shotgun. It was a slaughter inside." Sirens could be heard across Paris and security is ramped up in transportation hubs, religious sites, media offices … even department stores. Hours after the assault, the men remain at large and one police official worries of further attacks. REPRESENTATIVE OF POLICE UNION 'ALLIANCE POLICE NATIONALE', EMMANUEL QUEMENER, SAYING: "These individuals are being thoroughly pursued and this is a priority because they are armed and extremely dangerous and things will certainly develop." The attack came just one hour after the newspaper sent out a tweet mocking the leader of the Islamic State, the al Qaeda offshoot that controls parts of Syria and Iraq. France has been on high alert ever since Islamist militants last year called on attacks against its citizens -- to avenge French military strikes against Islamist fighters in the Middle East and Africa. French President Francois Hollande visited the scene and vowed the terrorists will be brought to justice. France, he said, is in a state of shock." (SOUNDBITE) (French) FRENCH PRESIDENT FRANCOIS HOLLANDE SAYING: "We know that we have been threatened just like other countries around the world. Threatened because we are a country of freedom." Another 20 people are also wounded, several critically. The White House has condemned the assault and is offering its help to find the perpetrators.
