Yemen leader ready to accept demands of Houthis after his guards were defeated

Yemen's President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi expressed readiness to accept Houthi demands for power-sharing after two days of battle. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.

Houthi guards man checkpoints in Yemen's Capitol Sanaa. The Shi'ite group is in near total control of the capital. But they have stopped short of overthrowing President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi. Now they are offering assurances. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) HOUTHI, ABW HASSAN SAYING: "We are here to provide security and stability and to protect freedom and services of all people." Video obtained by Reuters shows Houthis launching an attack earlier on Yemen's Presidential Palace. Now the President is signaling his readiness to accept demands for power sharing with the Houthis. The Houthis, friendly to Iran, swept into the capital four months ago and have emerged as the dominant force in the country.
