ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) House Speaker John Boehner says President Obama's State of the Union Address was "more of the same approach that has failed the middle class for decades." Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Boehner said, "There's a better way. We need to fix our broken tax code. Balance our budget, replace our broken health care law with solutions that lower costs and protect jobs." Obama struck a highly confident tone in his State of the Union address on Tuesday night, saying, "the shadow of crisis has passed." It is now time for policies like raising taxes on the rich and offering community college for free for two years, he said. Obama threatened to veto Republican efforts to roll back key decisions such as the Obamacare healthcare law and the loosening of immigration policy, and the administration's refusal to approve the planned Keystone XL oil pipeline. Republicans have said they are willing to work with Obama on issues like tax reform and trade. But Boehner warned, "You heard the President last night call for raising taxes again. Now if he wants to raise taxes, it's going to make it very difficult for us to come to some agreement on how we're going to reform our broken tax code."
