ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Senator John McCain held back tears as he spoke to reporters about the death of U.S. aid worker Kayla Mueller. An emotional McCain blamed himself for failing to rescue the 26-year-old who was held hostage by Islamic State militants in Syria. "The fact is I failed, I failed... I was unable to get her back and I view it as one of the really sad things in my life that I was unable to," said McCain. Before her abduction, Mueller worked for a Turkish relief agency on the Syrian border, first traveling to that region in 2012. She previously had volunteered for schools and relief groups elsewhere in the Mideast and India. Family and friends remembered the Arizona native as a "free spirit" driven by her enormous empathy for human suffering.
