A day in court for Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny. Navalny was detained last weekend in a Moscow metro for handing out leaflets advertising an anti-Kremlin protest March 1st - a gathering not sanctioned by authorities. The judge hands down a 15-day sentence. (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) RUSSIAN JUDGE, IRINA ZUBOVA, SAYING: "The court has declared Alexei Anatolevich Navalny guilty of the administrative violation that is stated in part 8 of article 20.2 of the administrative violations code, and imposes the penalty of administrative arrest for the term of 15 days." Navalny shoots back, calling on supporters to protest anyway. (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) RUSSIAN OPPOSITION ACTIVIST, ALEXEI NAVALNY, SAYING: "Thank you very much, your honor, for for explaining to everyone again why they should come to the spring march." Earlier this week, Russian prosecutors called for the Kremlin critic to be jailed for 10 years as they appealed a suspended sentence, arguing it was "too soft". (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) RUSSIAN OPPOSITION ACTIVIST, ALEXEI NAVALNY, SAYING: "It's obvious that the nature of the crisis in the country has led us to war, to corruption and to the increase in prices for products. So, in order to prevent political and economic crisis, we have to put pressure on this government. So we are all going to the anti-crisis march. Goodbye. Thank you very much for your support." The federal prisons service is now deciding how today's sentence will impact his suspended sentence from last year.
