It was a race to the finish for teams participating in the 2015 NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge in Alabama. High school and university teams designed and built their vehicles, then drove them through the obstacle course which was made to resemble terrain on moons, planets, and asteroids. The NASA Rover Challenge website said the competition aims to test students' engineering skills while demonstrating NASA's commitment to new generations of explorers. It was an uphill battle for most. Penalties were incurred for pushing, pulling, or dragging your rover through the course. Teams from 18 U.S. states, Puerto Rico and countries including Mexico, Russia, Germany and India participated in this year's challenge. According to the NASA Rover Challenge twitter account, the first place winner for best time in the college division went to a team from Russia. The winner for best time in the high school division went to a team from Puerto Rico.
