An Air China plane carrying Chinese President Xi Jinping pulled slowly up to the red carpet in Islamabad on Monday. Pakistan put on an elaborate ceremony to welcome the Chinese leader, with full military honors and cultural displays. Xi is bringing with him plans for 46 billion dollars in infrastructure and energy projects for an economic corridor that would stretch from southern Pakistan to western China. That far exceeds U.S. spending in Pakistan and underscores China's ambitions in Asia. In addition to the economic corridor, Xi Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif are expected to discuss security issues as well as cooperation on Afghanistan and other regional concerns.
