ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) U.S. President Obama welcomed Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots to the White House, Thursday (April 23). "I usually tell a lot of jokes at these events, but I was worried because usually, 11 out of 12 of them fall flat," Obama joked, in reference to the Patriots' Deflategate scandal. The controversy had once dominated the sports headlines for the NFL's most successful franchises. Patriots owner Robert Kraft presented Obama with a custom team jersey from the Super Bowl, a football, and a helmet. In the 20 years since Kraft bought the franchise, the Patriots have made the playoffs an eyebrow-raising 15 times and played in seven Super Bowls winning four.
