Sunday Mass at this church in Havana must have felt especially nice for these Cuban faithful. Earlier in the day, the leader of this communist island nation had a rare Sunday, private meeting at the Vatican with Pope Francis, to thank the Pope for helping broker the thaw in Cuba-U.S. relations. Now, Cuba's faithful are lavishing praise on the pontiff. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) HAVANA RESIDENT RICARDO RODRIGUEZ, SAYING: "Pope Francis is not only playing the role of pope, but also that of mediator, by really helping the faithful and the people to find friendship and approval for all people in the world. It's the best that can be expected of a pope." Cuba's communist government began loosening restrictions on the church's activities in the early 1990's. Cuban President Raul Castro, who went to Jesuit school as a child, says he was so impressed by his meeting with the Pope, he just might go BACK to the church. The faithful here are looking forward to the Pope's visit to Cuba in September, when even their president says he'll attend the Pope's mass.
