If celebrity endorsement counts for anything, then new Broadway musical 'Hamilton' will be a sure fire hit. The show - about American founding father Alexander Hamilton from his roots as a Caribbean orphan to political prominence as George Washington's right hand man - has had three weeks of previews which have been packed with stars and powerful figures from Madonna to President Obama. And on its opening night, celebrity supporters were back to see it once more. SOUNDBITE singer Jon Bon Jovi, saying (English): "I've seen the play, believe the hype." SOUNDBITE TV personality Rosie O'Donnell, saying (English): "I love it. It's the best show I ever saw." SOUNDBITE actress Laverne Cox, saying (English): "I saw it at the Public, I was blown away. It is revolutionary, it will revolutionize American theater." The musical uses rap, jazz and ballads and is colour blind where the casting is concerned with African American Christopher Jackson taking the role of George Washington and Puerto Rican Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is also the show's composer and writer, taking the lead. SOUNDBITE director, Thomas Kail, saying (English): "Who if we were staging this would be good casting? Or who is going to sell tickets? All that stuff went by the wayside. What it became ultimately was who has the essential characteristics of this person were trying to infuse with real blood." It's not just the celebrities who have been singing the show's praises, but also the theatre critics, making 'Hamilton' the hottest ticket on Broadway.
