World soccer's governing body FIFA bans chief Sepp Blatter from all football activities for 90 days ... in a corruption scandal that has prompted criminal investigations on both sides of the Atlantic. Also suspended... Blatter's possible successor European boss Micael Platini. President of FIFA since 1998, Blatter was due to stand down after an election for his replacement in February. Head of European body UEFA, Platini's shrinking election hopes now depend on whether he can overturn the ban imposed by FIFA's Ethics Committee. FIFA faces criminal investigations in Switzerland and the U.S. into corruption at the highest levels of the game. Fourteen soccer officials were indicted in May and questions linger over the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and Qatar respectively.
