EDITORS PLEASE NOTE, AUDIO AS INCOMING STORY: Dinosaur claws, a quick-folding trampoline for 6-year-olds, and a slingshot-like device that launches projectiles top the annual "10 Worst Toys" list. Compiled by consumer watchdog, World Against Toys Causing Harm, also known as WATCH, the list highlights what it believes are the most dangerous children's toys being sold this holiday season. SOUNDBITE: World Against Toys Causing Harm, Inc. (WATCH) Director, James Swartz, saying (English): "Don't assume that because a toy like this is sold for a baby and it's made its way to the shelves, that it's safe for that age group." WATCH says packaging on some items, like the dinosaur claws from Hasbro, provides "no warnings or cautions ... about the potential for eye and facial injuries." President Joan Siff hopes the list will urge parents to research product safety information before making purchases this year. SOUNDBITE: World Against Toys Causing Harm, Inc. (WATCH) President Joan Siff, saying, (English): "The numbers continue to be staggering. One child goes to the ER every three minutes in the United States because of toy-related injuries - 250,000 kids in 2013 alone. Many of these injuries are preventable with safer-designed toys and pre-market testing." The Toy Industry Association says manufacturers are meeting or exceeding stringent federal safety standards, and that watchdog groups routinely misrepresent their toys in reports. Other toys on the list include a Quick Folding Trampoline by Toys R Us that WATCH said posed the risk of neck injury if a child falls, and the Splat X Smack Shot by Imperial Toy LLC which WATCH says could cause eye injuries.
