ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: To mark the start of the Christmas season, a 12-meter (39 foot) Christmas tree was lit at the Baptism Site, which is located west of Amman in Jordan on Sunday (December 13). Many Christians believe this is the spot where Jesus was baptized. The event was organized by the Lutheran Church and it aimed to send a message of peace, said Bishop Munib A. Younan, the president of the Lutheran World Federation. "It is a national day. It is a national day when we are lighting this tree to tell the world that living together Muslims and Christians is possible and Jordan has become a model and as it is possible in Jordan it can be possible all over the world," he told Reuters. People from all over Jordan came to the holy site to celebrate the tree lighting. "It is a site where Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist," reiterated Diaa Madani, the Baptism Site Commission director. This is the second time the Lutheran Church has organized a Christmas tree lighting at the Baptism Site.
