A 34-year-old slice of cake from the royal wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles is going on sale. The slice of fruitcake is packaged in the original white and silver presentation box dated Buckingham Palace 29 July 1981. The offer also includes the original gift card. The entire slice is wrapped in original wax paper and doily. SOUNDBITE Michael Kirk, manager for Nate D. Sanders Auctions, saying (English): "It's a piece of history. I think everyone of our era knows where they were the day Charles and Diana got married. This particular piece of cake was served at the reception just following the wedding, for their closets 120 friends, relatives and guests." The bidding for the cake slice begins at 1,100 dollars (USD) but could go much higher given the interest around the royal wedding. Other marquee memorabilia for sale include a wooden rocking chair used by President John F. Kennedy while at the White House and JFK's signed Senate identification card. Bidding for the chair begins at 70,000 U.S. dollars. The online auction ends on Thursday.
