This is a rare scene in Yemen... vehicles full of prisoners are driven down a street in Aden, approaching a crowd gathered to receive them with open arms. An official said Yemen's Iranian-allied Houthi rebels freed 265 prisoners. The so-called Southern Resistance movement reportedly freed 300. This, in a deal brokered by local tribal leaders, is expected to reflect positively on the ongoing peace talks in Switzerland between President Hadi's government and the Houthis. Hadi's representatives want the rebels to release several senior officials. And according to a Reuters source, the Houthis say they are ready to free them once a permanent ceasefire is agreed to. These prisoners may be liberated, but Yemen is still in the clutches of a civil war that has killed thousands of people.
