Russian cosmonauts begin spacewalk

Russian flight engineers Yuri Malenchenko and Sergey Volkov embark on a spacewalk outside the International Space Station to collect an experiment testing biological and biochemical samples' exposure to an open space environment. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Two Russian cosmonauts began a 5.5-hour spacewalk at the International Space Station on Wednesday (February 3). Flight engineers Yuri Malenchenko and Sergey Volkov are due to collect an experiment containing biological and biochemical samples located outside the station, according to NASA. The samples are being tested for exposure to an open space environment. The conditions which the samples are exposed to include cosmic radiation, vaccuum, full-spectrum solar light and more. The collection is for the EXPOSE-R Experiment, which is part of the European Space Agency's research in astrobiology.
