ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Story: U.S. President Barack Obama on Thursday expressed confidence that the United States would prevail in its fight against the Islamic State, but said that an end to the conflict in Syria would be key to dismantling the group. He added that the conflict in Syria cannot end while President Bashar al-Assad remains in office. "There's no alternative to a managed transition away from Assad," Obama told reporters after a meeting with the National Security Council at the State Department, . "It's the only way to end the civil and united the Syria people against terrorists." He added that the coalition of countries fighting IS is growing stronger and will not give up until it has defeated the militant group, both on the battlefield and in its ideology.
