Donald Trump, the brash billionaire businessman and U.S. Republican presidential front-runner... Known for his bad hair, love of attractive women, and cringe-worthy remarks... (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE DONALD TRUMP SAYING: "We won with highly educated. We won with poorly educated. I love the poorly educated." Is drawing parallels with a rather familiar figure on the other side of the Atlantic... Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. (SOUNDBITE) (Italian) FORMER ITALIAN PRIME MINISTER SILVIO BERLUSCONI SAYING: "They keep saying, 'Berlusconi go home', which makes me somewhat embarrassed because I wouldn't know which one I should go to, since I own 20." Colorful and scandal-prone, the billionaire media mogul dominated Italian politics for two decades... Confounding political pundits who repeatedly counted him out. Like Trump, Berlusconi appears to revel in doing the unexpected... For example, telling German Chancellor Angela Merkel to wait for him as he finished a phone call, as she prepared to greet him at a NATO summit. Massimo Franco is a journalist for Italy's Corriere Della Sera newspaper. He says the Trump/Berlusconi phenomenon reveals that established institutions appear outdated to many voters. (SOUNDBITE) (English) CORRIERE DELLA SERA JOURNALIST AND WRITER, MASSIMO FRANCO, SAYING: "Berlusconi said many grotesque things but they were not perceived as such. That means that the problem is not Berlusconi's gaffes but the narrative of the establishment." While Berlusconi resigned from office in 2011 -- at the peak of the euro zone debt crisis and amid the so-called "Bunga-Bunga" sex scandal... Trump's rise in American politics...is certainly triggering some deja-vu.
