An Amtrak train derailed in Chester, Pennsylvania when it struck a backhoe, killing two people -- leaving residents living across from the tracks in shock. (SOUNDBITE) (English) LOCAL RESIDENT TRENA BYRD SAYING: "It's just overwhelming to know that lives were lost as a result." At least 35 others were injured when the train running from New York to Savannah, Georgia with some 350 aboard went off the tracks. (SOUNDBITE) (English) STEPHEN GARDNER EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, AMTRAK: "Service on Amtrak's Northeast corridor is currently suspended between Philadelphia and Wilmington. We'll be working to restore service as soon as possible." The derailment comes just weeks after some three dozen people were injured when an Amtrak passenger train derailed in Kansas in March.
