ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Asserting that he is the only Republican candidate capable of beating Hillary Clinton in a general election, Ohio Governor John Kasich said Monday that the Republican party risks uniting behind a nominee who will be "destroyed" in the general election. "I think we have a good chance of having a united Republican party, with nominees who are going to get destroyed in the fall election. You see, because at the end of the day, I'm the only one that consistently beats Hillary Clinton, and the only one with the record and experience to actually run this country," Kasich told reporters in the New York statehouse in Albany. "When we get to a convention, they are going to look at who can win in the fall. I'm about to go meet the New York state senate. And I will tell you that the majority in the New York state senate will not be a majority with the other two guys being the nominee of the party. So what we really need to do is get these people, these critics, to get behind me and get their people to drop out so we can actually beat Hillary Clinton," Kasich said. According to realclearpolitics.com, Kasich trails Donald Trump by a wide margin heading into New York's primary election next Tuesday (April 19).
