ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) U.S. President Barack Obama arrived in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh on Wednesday (April 20) for a summit meeting with King Salman and his fellow Gulf Arab leaders. Obama will have a meeting with Salman later on Wednesday and with the heads of the other Gulf Cooperation Council countries, including Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Oman, on Thursday. Obama will meet Saudi King Salman before a summit with all the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), also in Riyadh, on Thursday, with shared security and defense issues likely to dominate the agenda. Obama and U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter will seek to reassure the GCC that Washington still shares their interests and will continue to ensure their security, U.S. officials have said.
