President Obama says ''in the words of Lorraine Hansberry'' there is no better time than now to be ''young gifted and black in America'' during Howard University's 148th commencement. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: U.S. President Barack Obama delivers the 148th commencement address at Howard University in Washington, D.C. on Saturday (May 7). "I used to joke about being old. Now I realize -- I'm old," said Obama, who went on to stay the world is better now than it once was. "If you had to choose a time to be, in the words of Lorraine Hansberry, young gifted and black in America, you would choose right now," Obama said to the audience at one of the country's most recognized historically black colleges. The president joked about Beyonce running the world and said African Americans are not just performers but producers and studio executives and CEOs. The university's alumni include Nobel Prize-winning novelist Toni Morrison, Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and actress Phylicia Rashad. "And when your journey seems too hard... you might say to yourself a little phrase that I've found handy these last eight years- 'Yes we can,'" said Obama, who will end his second term as president this year.
